Reviews
Netherlands/ Utrecht
The Nationale Reisopera presented an intriguing new look at Tosca --- Carlos Wagner situated all three acts in a church --- This lent the piece a certain classical Greek unity, which it already possesses in temporal terms, but which, in such a claustrophobic visual context, became even more crunchy --- in the atmospheric décor of Bob Bailey and the fine lighting of Jeroen Visser this 'shabby shocker' took on a new life. This sober staging was certainly more powerful than the 'Rome in a Day' lavishness one usually sees.
