Reviews

The director Carlos Wagner --- translates Schönberg's one-act drama "die Glückliche Hand" about a man who can't find his way through modern life into bewitching images, light as a feather --- Matteo de Monti sings the role of the Man and is scenically highly present, as is Meylem Gonzales as the young woman. It is the middle part of this Schönberg trilogy titled "Moderne Menschen" at the opera in Leipzig and our favourite.

Also the second piece is very free in its interpretation of Schönberg, the author. For "die Glückliche Hand" he gave detailed stage and lighting instructions, which are consistently ignored by director Carlos Wagner and set designer Daphne Kitschen. --- It is precisely the contradiction between expected and actual action on stage, Brecht called it alienation, which awakens the interest in this eternally recurring story --- Aesthetically charming and playful, with a pinch of humour and self-mockery the profound monologue about love and luck is made wittily evident.

The most convincing interpretation of the evening was that of Carlos Wagner and his set designer Daphne Kitschen. "Die glückliche Hand" a drama about a man who fails to set foot into reality, is clothed in imaginative images, light as a feather, creating a kind of extraterrestrial football game.
